Taking care of the exhalation takes care of the inhalation, expectorating CO2. Normal breaths according to the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) Outdoor Guide states that normal breaths occur in a 3:1 ratio, therefore elongating the exhalation for parasympathetic relaxation breaths may occur in a 4:1 ratio by exhaling four counts and inhaling one count

4.) Attitude of gratitude; thankful to lead and follow the heart; soul searching for True-self-arising (Atman, Parusha): Praise to the Breath (pranayama) of Life! Words

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or maybe in the ear of the listener, in this case. Although beauty is subjective, there are some words that–for different reasons–stand out from the crowd and are almost universally praised for their beautiful meanings or mellowness to the ear. Here’s a list of eight of our favorite English words, enjoy!

  • Serendipity: A fortunate but unexpected discovery. Most scientific breakthroughs come this way! The word can be traced back to an ancient Persian tale about three princes from a far-away country called Serendip (or Serendippo in some versions) that, with a mix of wisdom and lucky accidents, navigate their way through many seemingly impossible challenges.

  • Idyllic: According to the Cambridge Dictionary, "an idyllic place or experience is extremely pleasant, beautiful, or peaceful." A clear-skied afternoon spent in a colorful meadow, a summer spent at your lovely grandmother’s house on the outskirts of town, a calm and beautiful beach under a cliffside, hidden from view, these are all possible examples of idyllic places. In Ancient Greece, an idyll was also a short poem descriptive of rustic life–which may explain why we tend to associate this word with nature and simple things.

  • Sequoia: As you may already know, sequoias are coniferous redwood trees that can be found mostly in Northern California. They are the largest trees on Earth! These towering giants were named after Sequoya, a Cherokee man who devised a system of writing for his people's language.

  • Gossamer: A very poetic word, it can refer either to "a film of cobwebs floating in the air in calm clear weather", or to something delicate and insubstantial: the gossamer of midsummer dreams. In Middle English, it used to refer to a warm spell during late autumn, when geese are in season - literally "goose summer". Moreover, the association of the word with light or delicate elements, such as cobwebs, likely stems from the silk-like texture of goose down.

  • Petrichor: The pleasant scent of rain or, more specifically, the scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. Derived from Ancient Greek roots, "petra" signifies rock or stone, while "ichor" refers to a fluid associated with the blood of the Gods. When water falls to the ground, air bubbles trapped within the soil are displaced, forming aerosols that carry scents as well as some microorganisms. Apparently, humans evolved to perceive it, as our noses are capable of discerning one of the main released compounds, geosmin, at concentrations as low as 0.4 parts per billion.

  • Arora: Aurora was the Roman goddess of dawn, and like its Greek counterpart Eos, it carries the linguistic root of an earlier Indo-European word also relating to the dawn of the day. Traditionally, it is also the given name of the princess of the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty. Nowadays, we tend to associate it mostly with the Aurora Borealis (or Aurora Australis if it is located in the southern hemisphere), a natural electromagnetic phenomenon seen in high-latitude regions.

  • Cynosure: literally Greek for "dog's tail", is a guiding principle, something or someone that is the center of attention. However, it was originally used to refer to the North Star, or even the entire Ursa Minor constellation, since it was extensively used for navigation. May be similar to Arjuna’s horse in the Bhagavad Gita

  • Eudaemonia: This Ancient Greek word (notice a pattern?) refers to a blissful state of being happy, healthy, and prosperous, usually translated as "happiness" or "welfare". It can also appear as eudaimonia or eudemonia. According to Aristotle, eudaemonia is the highest good for humans, and the goal of practical philosophy is to better understand this state or experience in order to find a way to achieve it.

Spirituality is a philosophical and or theological beloved/blessed blissful spirit of which “Gratefulness is the root of joy” according to the Gratitude Ap. “I am feeling grateful” affirms feeling sensations at the Cardiac-pulmonary plexus (Anahata chakra) whereas affirmations are mantras and when strung together are known as japa. A Yoga Therapist’s Responsabilities are Eight Limb (Ashtanga)

 

A proverbial Tree of Life having Eight-Limbs (Astanga) is symbolic of (a yoga therapist's) responsibilities providing or sharing leaves of knowledge pertaining to best practices. In the West, Ashtanga Power Yoga is known to be founded by K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). The term Ashtanga can be recently translated as Eight-practices of Awareness, Oneness, wholeness or Holistic Health arising from the dead language of Sanskrit (Latin of the East) possibly brought in part, to the West by Crusaders being cloistered and shared by intellectual-elites/priests for spiritual well-being. Ashtanga is helpful to all the Yoga Classics including and not limited to Physical (Hatha), Causation (Karma), Knowledgeable (Jnana), Cultivation (Raja) and Reverence (Bhakti) achieved via the general scope of practices including civil (yamas), polite (niyamas), posture (asana), breath (pranayama), holding-tension (pratyahara), attention (dharana), meditation (dhyana) and living-meditation (samadhi). The eight classic practices (ashtanga) branch from generalized to specialized niche or scope practices, whereas interpreting and providing self-care or individualized care symbolic of leaves and flowers, for being alive with the fruits of yoga (therapy) is supported, rooting from the ground-up via interconnected existence and vie-a-vie from the top-down; an evolving evolution/liberation! 

Hatha is the most modern Classic Yoga, having emerged during medieval times^, encompassing other Western 'styles' of Yoga Physical Activity (PA). Karma can be understood with the example of, "I breathe therefore I live", Jnana is careful Self-realization, while Raja is promotion occurring when Good for the Self is helpful to many, and Bhakti is known to it's practitioners as Love. Classic Practice responsibilities are highly correlated, think 3D views, to Sentient Plexus (Chakra) Values and Bio-enviro-psychi-socio-philosophical (Pancha-maya-kosha) Principles. Hatha can be translated as pose (ha) counterpose (t(h)a) with postural (asana) movements as medicine!

Civility, ethics & restraints (yamas) include:

  •  the number one Eastern premise known as the Golden Rule - without-harming (ahimsa)
  • without-deceit (satya), without-cheating (astaya)
  • without-controlling (brahmacharya) 
  • without-possessiveness (aparigraha)

Polite, morals & austerities (niyamas) include:

  • self-study & studiousness (svadhyaya)
  • serene-determination & faith (ishvarapranidhana) solving and welcoming the mystery of life

Sustained by whole plant powered foods is asana translated as posture, poise & pose with Classic subtle alignments are the:

    • insteps of feet (pada bandha) supporting legs and the body 
    • pelvic-floor/perinium (mulah bandha) supporting pelvis 
    • core (Udiyana bandha) supporting torso 
    • upper back (rhomba bandha) supporting chest  -a Yoga Training (Touch) original*
    • neck (jalandhara bandha) supporting the head  
    • hands (hasta bandha) supporting objects, arms and the body


Sustained by Oxygention is pranayama translated as energy & breath with Classic subtle breaths drawing out the exhalation for relaxation known as:

    • viyana being ever present, especially of the reproductive organs
    • sanyana are core sustaining breaths occurring when other parts of the body receive less oxygenation in emergency situations
    • prana is energy in from the environment

    • udana is a mindful process breaths to the appendages; breath to the tips of toes, fingers and top of the head

Sustained by thoughts withdrawing & holding-tension from what is not of service for noticing peace of mind (pratyahara) serving maturity, remembrance and reflection; waiting for understanding by choosing, "yogas citta vrtti nirodhah" cessation of the mindstuff according to Patanjali, the yoga patron:

  • without dis-ease (dukha)
    • feeling no evil (naturally numb)
    • eating no evil (plant powered)
    • hearing no evil (ears covered)
    • speaking no evil (saying nothing)
    • thinking no evil (no nonsense) 
    • seeing no evil (eyes closed)

Present, intuitive & attentive; attention (dharana) for modern Hatha Yoga enthusiasts whereas somatic intelligence can be explored visualizing**** sentient-plexi (chakras) or hubs integrating body systems (skeletal, muscular, endocrine, nervous, excretory/urinary, reproductive/sexual, lymph, digestive, vascular, pulmonary and integumentary) as a working whole.

Miracles

​I was asked by a client, "Do you believe in miracles?" The short answer is yes. The long answer begins with the awareness that Charles Babbage (1791-1871), an English Polymath considered by some as the “Father of the Computer” has stated, "If we define a miracle as an effect of which the cause is unknown to us, then we make our ignorance the source of miracles!" To counter ignorance let us define responsibilities, realize values of source and choose subtle-body principles☮️

First, to understand classic physical (hatha), mental (jnana), cultivation (raja), causation (karma) and reverence (bhakti) practices are taught via eight-limbs (as(h)tanga). Within ashtanga are specific practice examples. Faith (ishvarahpranidhana) for example is a polite (niyama) serene-determination connected to hope and love. Astanga classic practice responsibilities include, civil (yama), polite (niyama), posture (asana), breath (pranayama), hold-tension (pratyahara), attention (dharana), meditation (dhyana) and living-meditation (samadhi)🆔

Second, to realize wellness within the Yoga Therapy Bio-enviro-psycho-socio-philosophical (Panc(h)a-maya-kosha) model from the values of longevity, vitality, mentality, intellectuality and spirituality. The model encompasses ‘five protections from illusion’, a more literal translation of the Sanskrit word pancamayakosha. The outermost bodily protection is biological (a(h)na-mayakosha) as well as being the first gross-body protection of the atmosphere working out into the cosm. The next protection (kosha) towards inner bliss is environmental (pra(h)na-mayakosha). Then, the psychological (ma(h)na-mayakosha), followed by the sociological protection known as vijna(h)na-mayakosha a wise intelligent intuition. All four koshas protect the a(h)nanda-mayakosh; the outermost macrocosmic protection is mirrored in the soul as the innermost protected sheath, veil, layer or micro-essence of source, force and or being⚛️

Next, through subtle-body principles particular to general and specific plexus (chakra) correlations in the seven to twelve system format. The Cavernous-cerebral plexus (Ajna, 6th chakra) is correlated to science, to proof. The Sacral plexus (Swadisht(h)a(h)na, 2nd chakra) is correlated to feeling, to theory. Specific to the vijnana-mayakosha, respective of 2nd and 6th chakra correlations, are relationship equity, a kindly togetherness for parasympathetic inhibition and excitation responses as well as top down, bottom up and processes that evolve around for information exchange. When through love, a Cardiac-pulmonary plexus (Anahata, 4th Chakra) correlation, a oneness of theory and proof unveils miraculous realities that defy death and provide cures, specifically with free and responsible (astanga) ways of understanding. Yoga therapy patrons benefit from innate full circle realizations integrated by a yoga therapist’s responsibilities, values and principles☯️ 

Furthermore, intuition (vijnana) is most closely correlated to bliss (ananda). In the Yoga Therapy model intuition is an aspect of sociology where theoretical feelings, such as feelings of equanimity (anahata), are validated by populations world-wide. Scientific research proofs when mathematically speaking, according to dictionary.com, are a way of understanding “in which there is an identity element that, on operating on another element, leaves the second element unchanged, and in which each element has corresponding to it a unique element that, on operating on the first, results in the identity element.” A verification by multiple groups is known as meta-analysis whereas correct correlations support theories. The UE Group of researchers at regroup.com eloquently states, "...success metrics, preferences, and ratings gathered from quantitative research helps validate and inform... By adding qualitative research takes it a step further, uncovering the motivations, behaviors and emotions..." An awe inspiring intelligence can be miraculous when allegedly unreplicatable revelations or unknown ancient practices are wisely accepted becoming future endeavors as intuition touches the soul💟

Finally, inspire (small) miracles with classic practice references in parentheses by noticing a happy blissful spirit through chakra correlations. The string of affirmations (japa) include: 1) Have ahimsa; without harm share the joy 2) feel the faith (ishvarahpranidhana); rejoice in joy 3) believe in yourself (astikya) to eccocentrically apply healthy-habits (hutu) and safety-rules (vrata)  4) Namaste is gracefully saying ‘thank you’ when leading and following your heart while omnipresently soul searching for ‘True Self Arise’ (Brahmin, Atman, Parusha, Id) with an attitude of gratitude and generosity 5) let laughter happen (bhoga) 6) Gently smile (sukha) 7) dare to dream ~ peace is possible (shanti) 8) explore beyond horizons with awareness (samadhi)  9) self-directed destiny is divinity (divya, nirvana, moksha) 10) seek heights and depths as well as open spaces and crowds in cosmic universal harmony (pranava) 11) compassionately embrace the journey victoriously (jaya) 12) smartly write a happy process and ending (buddhi). Observe the effects from the japa that can enlighten the anandamayakosha. Be protected without illusion (kosha) by the dance of energy; Om namah shivaya🕉

Holistic Health, A Bio-enviro-psyche-socio-philosophical (pancamayakosha) model of care

- “Emotional pain” - insults or insinuations of not being good enough: affirmation ~  “I am enough”, “I am vital”, “I have a subtle emotional energy” “Vitality, sustained by air enhanced by breath (pranayama)”, whereas taking care of the exhalation, expectorating CO2, takes care of the inhalation. Breath (pranayama) utilization specific guttural throat breaths (ujayi) affirming, “breath of victory” or “this too, shall pass” observing ever-present breaths (viyana) working through emotions benefitting pratyahara is powerful

- “Intellectual pain” - having ideas or suggestions discounted: affirmation, “I have a thoughtful mature mind with a polite-lifestyle (niyama)”, “clean, spaces & places, pure-spirit, & clear-mind”, “Mentality, sustained by thoughtfulness enhanced (aztanga) by sensory-withdrawal/counterintuitive-relaxation/holding-tension (pratyahara)” benefitting attention (dharana) is wealthy

- “Pain of Power” - Instigations by a person, group, population, religion, government, and or other entity insisting their power prevails over anyone and or anything. Affirm, “I have intuitive, intelligent, intellect”, “Intellectuality, sustained by meta-analysis enhanced (aztanga) by attention (dharana) to details” benefitting meditation (dhyana) is wise

- “Existential pain” sometimes called a ‘dark night of the soul’ - not understanding (the reason for living): affirmation, “Free and responsible [civil (yama), polite (niyama), posture (asana), breath (pranayama), sensory-withdrawal/counterintuitive-relaxation/holding-tension (pratyahara), attention (dharana), meditation (dhyana), living-meditation/awareness/ecstasy (samadhi)] ways of understanding”, “Spirituality sustained by affirmations (mantras) & or prayer is enhanced (aztanga) by meditation (dhyana) without medication benefitting a living-meditation/awareness/ecstasy (samadhi) is happy

Inclusive of who, what, when, where, why and how of a greater good with Brain-Power attentive (dharana) to the 1.) inherent worth and dignity of every person place thing and sentient being 2.) equity in relations 3.) spiritual growth 4.) free and responsible (yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, samadhi) ways of understanding 5.) peoples process 6.) working for world peace 7.) obtaining peace 8.) justice, and 9.) liberty 10.) respecting 11.) interconnected 12.) existence. Whereas a person is free from pain or dis-ease (dukha) for ease (sukha) is occurring holistically sustained by food/water, air, theoretical-thoughts, researched-indices/met-analysis, and affirmations/prayers enhanced (Aztanga) by posture (asana), breath (pranayama), counterintuitive-relaxation/sensory-withdrawal/holding-tension (pratyahara), attention (dharana, meditation (dhyana) and living-meditation (samadhi).
